The loss of multiple teeth can significantly impair the function of your mouth. Beyond the compromised ability to chew food, it can also affect your speech and eventually cause other orthodontic problems. Fortunately, your dentist, Dr. Alex Abernathy, has the dental technology available to restore the structure and function of multiple missing teeth by using dental implants to anchor a dental bridge.

Our team will start by examining the area and assessing your jaw structure by taking some X-rays. In some cases when multiple teeth are lost, it also compromises the surrounding bone tissues in that area of your mouth. Should this prove to the be case, we might recommend preparing the area with a bone graft.

When you’re ready, we will install a pair of titanium dental implants in a single outpatient appointment. You will need to be sedated for your own comfort. Afterward, you will need to arrange to have a friend or family member drive you home.

Your oral surgeon will then make two small incisions in your gums to gain direct access to the underlying bone. They will drill narrow channels into the bone and then screw titanium abutments into place. Hard, plastic, temporary crowns will be cemented over the abutments to protect them while the titanium gradually fuses with the surrounding bone tissues.

After everything has healed, our team will schedule a second appointment to fit you for a dental bridge. This involves taking an impression of the two abutments and the corresponding teeth. We will send this to our off-site dental lab where the technicians will meticulously craft your new bridge.

If you’ve lost multiple teeth and you’re interested in a dental implanted bridge in Jackson, Mississippi, you should call 601-981-8166 to schedule a consultation at Lakeland Dental Care.
