What to Do About Dental Fear

Many people experience anxiety when they visit the dentist. The thought of sitting in a dental chair may make them nervous, or even afraid. Some people will avoid going to the dentist unless there is no other choice. Are you one of these people? Set your fears aside! At our dental office, we offer sedation dentistry for individuals who suffer from dental anxiety.

Sedation dentistry is the use of medication to help patients relax before and during dental treatment. You will be awake during your appointment, but you will be comfortable and calm. You may not even remember much of the procedure.

Laughing gas, which is also known as nitrous oxide, is a common form of sedation dentistry. When you visit our office, Dr. Abernathy and Dr. Santarufo will place a small mask over your nose. You will breathe nitrous oxide mixed with oxygen through the mask. This will relax you and help you feel at ease. Our dentists can regulate the amount of nitrous oxide you receive. After your treatment is done, the gas will wear off quickly. You will be able to drive yourself home after your visit.

Let our dentists and team know if you experience dental anxiety. We’d like to help! For more information about how sedation dentistry in Jackson, Mississippi, can help you and to schedule your next visit, we welcome you to contact Lakeland Dental Care today. We are excited to get to know you!
