Does one of your teeth have a cavity (decay)? A dental filling in Jackson, Mississippi, may be just what you need. Dr. Alex Abernathy will remove the tooth decay and fill the area with the dental filling material. This will restore the strength and function of the tooth. At our office, we provide composite dental fillings, which are tooth colored. Our dentist can select a shade of composite material that will match the color of your natural teeth.

How is a composite filling placed?
First, a local anesthetic is used to numb the area. Our dentist will then remove the decayed material and test the area to ensure that it is all gone. The area is then cleaned of debris and bacteria. Once the area is clean, Dr. Alex Abernathy will place your composite dental filling in layers. As each layer is placed, a special light is used to cure or harden it in place. When all of the layers are in place, the material will be shaped, trimmed, and polished.

Will dental insurance cover a composite dental filling?
With most dental insurance plans, the cost of the composite filling will be covered up to the price of a silver filling. The patient will then pay the difference.

How do I care for a tooth with a filling?
Dental fillings do not require special care. Simply follow good oral hygiene. Visit Lakeland Dental Care regularly for cleanings and exams, brush your teeth twice daily, and floss daily. If you notice an issue with your filling, like a crack, sharp edge, or sensitivity, visit our office as soon as possible. Dr. Alex Abernathy will assess the situation and take X-rays if necessary.
